Sierra Madre is a village of about 10,000 people nestled at the base of the scenic San Gabriel mountains. Although it is adjacent to Pasadena and within twenty minutes of downtown Los Angeles, the city maintains it's rural ambiance. It's residents are known for their fierce independance, their spirit of volunteerism, and their occasional quirkiness. Residents call each other by name and love to boast that there is not one traffic light in town. Sierra Madre is known for it's many artists in residence and is home to the world's largest flowering plant, a wistaria vine that encompasses two properties in town and is open for public viewing once a year during the annual Wistaria Festival. The city was the proud recipient of the "All American City" award in 2007, while also celebrating the centennial of the founding of the city.
